Unite in Rest: A Week in Kosovo

A Week in Kosovo
From October 7–13, I, Jen, had the privilege of serving as the main speaker for a women’s ministry conference in Kosovo—a young nation just 18 years old. Thirty-six women gathered, half local believers and half international workers, representing Kosovo, Albania, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, the U.S.A, Germany, and Australia. Our theme was “Unite in Rest and Refresh in God’s Presence.”
Together, we explored the beauty of God as our true source of rest. Scripture reminded us that rest is not something we strive to reach but a place we are invited to live from. As apprentices of Christ, we learned again what it means to abide in Him and live counter to a culture marked by hurry and anxiety. In Him, we have access to peace at all times—peace that is not dictated by our circumstances.
For many of the Christian women who attended, fellow believers are few within Kosovo, and they often grow weary from carrying the light of the Gospel in a spiritually challenging environment. Yet throughout the week, God met us—refreshing hearts, restoring joy, and knitting us together in His peace.
On our final night, as we checked out of the hotel, the receptionist and her manager approached us. In a nation where Islam is the majority faith, they shared, “There is a presence of peace around your group—something unlike anything we have ever experienced. You are different.”
As we worshiped in both Albanian and English, women from across nations united in one Spirit. Even hotel staff who did not share our faith lingered in the doorway, drawn by the peace they sensed.
Kosovo may be a young country, but God is writing a beautiful story there—one of unity, rest, and His unmistakable presence.
We used art and Scripture to delve deeper into the source of rest—how Christ lived it, how He invited others into it, and how His peace compels us to respond.
