Holding Space for Gospel Community

Book Club (Clube de Leitura) continues to feel like a gracious gift from the Lord. On December 13, we ladies gathered to discuss Anxious People by Friedrick Backman, a non-Christian fiction book, and I was so encouraged by how naturally meaningful conversations emerged. As we reflected on the story’s humor and the very human tendencies toward worry and anxiety, the group began exploring what the opposite of anxiety might be—landing thoughtfully on peace. This opened the door to deeper questions about where lasting peace can truly be found. Half of the ladies are not yet believers, and yet, all of us are on our journey with and towards the Lord. The time was a sweet, God-orchestrated moments as many shared their longing for peace and my two ministry partners gently testified to the peace they have found in Christ. Our discussion naturally turned toward the hope of Christmas and the Prince of Peace who is present and accessible today. The women lingered long into the afternoon and evening, continuing to share life together, discussing the realities of disappointments, broken trust, new joys, tension of holding space for our stories and still hoping towards something (or someONE else). I later received heartfelt messages expressing gratitude for the space and connection this “accidentally found” book club has provided. I am deeply thankful for what God is already doing among these local women and look forward with expectation to what He has in store in the year ahead.

SURPRISE!!

Reading Retreat #2 !!

The fall Reading Retreat was such a hit that the ladies decided on their OWN iniative to do ANOTHER reading retreat! One lady jumped and volunteered to find a location, another coordinated logistics, and everyone spread the enthusiasm to get away and BE with one another.

I have been reminded about the gift of simplicity, it is a lot easier to multiply and reproduce something that doesn’t require a lot of fan fare. So other than helping sort transportation and to make sure we are in budget, I am for the most part, along for the ride on this one… and I am LOVING watching the other ladies jump in and create this time of connection. I can’t wait to report back and share what God choose to do and give testimony of the Gospel actively engaging in each of these women’s lives. Stay tuned!
