Overby Odyssey June 2021 Moving Forward

June 6, 2021

Hello Everyone,

When Jesus called Peter out of the boat, Peter had to keep his eyes on Jesus, but when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the wind and waves instead, he started to sink. Right now as we continue to move forward in our faith walk, we have to daily remind ourselves of God’s calling and refocus our eyes on Jesus. During these past two months, God has been faithful and has graciously given us small affirmations when the waves got too big and all we could see were the unknowns. We are so thankful that God has led and provided so far, and are excited to see how He will move next.

Foster Brazil News & Prayer Requests May 2021

Dear Friends & Family,

“Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1,2 )

These familiar verses speak directly to the reason we keep on keeping on. Our close friend and encourager, as well as our pastor of many years, Bro. Jimmy Draper, in his book, Don’t Quit Before You Finish, writes: “We are to be found faithful, no matter what. In doing so, we provide the hope of Christ to…all who live in our depraved and deprived world. Our hope is their only hope — faith in Christ Jesus. And our call is to stay the course for Christ.”

Update from Nuno and Gila

Dear praying friends,

Last weekend we were so happy to be able to meet in person again! We had our third session of the Worship workshop on Saturday and everyone who came had such a wonderful time reflecting on the many different ways we can worship the Lord. Benni and Tabea are leading this workshop and everyone is diving deep on what it means to live as an act of worship. Pray for Benni and Tabea, as they are in a transition season and will soon leave to go back to Germany. Pray for the Lord`s guidance for their life. Ministry is Harder in 2021!!

The fear of the pandemic made the government place restrictions on us like mask wearing and social distancing. People were afraid so they isolated themselves. This made it very difficult to do ministry. Since the first of the year, things have opened up.

In April, we decided to do a Monday night Bible study on identity. It was very successful and we had a good turnout. The Wednesday night youth meeting, Alive, has maintained its momentum.

Tyas – Spring 2021

Spring 2021

From the notes of Ed and Gerry…

One of the thoughts I (Gerry)consider daily is praying for “God Appointments”. As the restrictions are opening up a little in our area I am delighted to resume a ministry that is near and dear to my heart. That is visiting in other homes. I am known as Anna as I go visiting. This is my middle name and so much easier for them to say. At the kitchen table or elsewhere in the home I want to encourage mothers and children and sometimes families in their walk with Jesus. This could include families we don’t know yet or families we have known for many years. In fact I have decided that this will be a ministry that I will concentrate on for this Spring and Summer. It is appropriate for this summer. It is also a perfect opportunity to hold discipleship encounters and family Bible studies. One question that I ask in each home before I leave …whether it is a home I have been visiting in many times in the past or the first time that I have visited in is…”Do you have any thing you would like my husband and I to keep in our prayers?” We would love to keep you and your family in our prayers. This usually lets me in deeper to their struggles with life. Because most of our ministry is outreach this time has been very difficult for us because we weren’t doing what we had done in the past which is outreach.

Rejoicing and Sorrow

Never is it easy to let go of someone that you love. Knowing that death is unavoidable and that each one of us face that day, we just faced that day last Saturday. On Saturday the 24th of April, my mom went to be with Jesus.

Update from Isabel Fernandes

Sometimes we run out of ideas and reach a point of exhaustion in the fight to understand how we can reach to the heart of the people here in Portugal. It looks like everyone is asleep and, no matter our efforts and creativity you will not reach the heart and soul of this generation. I have reminded myself many times of the words: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” I asked the He gives me the grace of finding a meeting point to call people’s attention. God, sometimes, uses the circumstances to take us on another way.
