Foster Care and Sickness

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for your prayers this past weekend. We wanted to give you a quick update on how we are doing. Apologies for those who are a bit squeamish, I will try to avoid any details. For those who missed the first email, on Thursday last week we took in three foster babies ages 10 mo, 18 mo, and 3 yr. The older two were a planned respite care for 5 days, while the youngest was a last minute addition by the child welfare offices who made it very clear that they had no other possible home for the little one. I had already chosen not to travel on the overnight track trip, and we had already prepared for littles, so we said yes to the third. Friends brought over an extra pack and play and booster seat on Thursday and a few friends helped Heather with the littles for a few hours on Thursday and Friday while I was at work. On Friday night we were hit hard by an extremely effective stomach virus that took out 7 of the 9 of us. From 9 pm until 5 am, Heather and I were simultaneously playing whack-a-mole on who to care for, who to shower off, what sheets to hose off in the front yard, starting loads of laundry, and dealing with the bug ourselves. Just by the grace and strength of God we made it through that night and were somehow able to function the next day. We had multiple people in our community dropping off bread, poweraid, diapers, etc for our family the next two days. We were blown away by the kindness, generosity, and support that we received. The rest of the weekend wasn’t a lot better. Heather and I were weak, Stuart and Samuel still were dealing with the bug, and then Sunday night Holly was hit and Heather was up most of the night with her. Today (Monday) the entire family stayed home sick. Late Monday afternoon the two older girls went back to their current foster family, and now we are down to only one extra child in the home. Thank you for praying. Thank you for standing in the gap for us when we had nothing to give but to just trust God and take another step. As we continue to move forward, here are some things to be praying for

  • Please be praying for continued healing and strength.
  • Pray that we will be able to love our current foster baby Nico well while he is with us, and for resolution and longer term solutions for his unique story. Heather will be meeting regularly with his grandma.
  • Pray for sisters Sofia and Diana who were with us this weekend and are both deaf. Pray for their story and that a good long term solution will be found for them as well.
  • Pray for so many other logistics that we are dealing with right now that need to be resolved. Visas, taxes, car transportation while we are in Oregon, and pet care while we are gone.
  • Pray for BFA and that the school year will wrap up well. There are so many more details that I could go on and on about, but I will leave it at that.

Thank you again for your faithfulness to pray and to support us in the work God has called us to here in Kandern.

Blessings,

Scott, for Heather, Stanley, Holly, Stuart, and Samuel
