Summer on the Caminho: Coffee, Community & Prayer

The Lord is my strength and my shield;

My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;

Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

And with my song I will praise Him.” Psalm 28:7

One Year Anniversary and we’re still smiling!

Summer Update from Vila do Conde

Bom Dia! Hi everyone!

We hope this note finds you well and enjoying the beauty of summer. Life here in Portugal has been full of warmth—both from the sunshine and the community that continues to grow around the café. Here are a few highlights from our little corner of the world:

☕ Celebrating One Year! ☕️

Our café is one years old! What a full and busy year. To celebrate we had our first team day where Arbab cooked an amazing meal. It was our time to love on and give back to the team and their families for all their hard work.

☀️ As the summer months bring travelers and Caminho walkers from around the world, the café has become a beautiful gathering space. It’s been amazing to see so many people feel at home here—sharing stories, pausing to rest, and having honest conversations. We’re grateful to witness this kind of connection.

✝️ Pamphlets of Hope

Our teammate Thay brought in special pamphlets from her church, filled with prayers and verses for pilgrims. People loved them, and they disappeared quickly! We’ll definitely be keeping them stocked—a small but powerful way to offer encouragement to those on the journey.

A Smaller Apartment, a Simpler Life

We (Kevin & Angela) recently moved into a smaller apartment now that the boys have moved out. With less space to care for, it’s been a refreshing change—perfect for this new season of life.

Kai & Beckham – Growing Together

Kai and Beckham are now living together in Vila do Conde, and it’s been a gift to see their bond as brothers grow stronger. They’ve both come through so much, and now they’re building a new chapter—together and close by the café, where they often hang out and lend a hand. It really feels like family.

✈️ Kai has just finished his first round of pilot training classes and will be heading to the UK soon to take his exams. We’re so proud of his commitment and excited to see where this dream takes him!

Beckham is feeling much more stable these days, and we’re thankful his new meds are helping. Although the game development work he was part of is on pause, he’s been channeling his creativity into handmade Caminho way armbands, which he sells at the café. They’re becoming really popular, and he loves connecting with people through them.

Sunday Gatherings

Each Sunday we host a small time of prayer and worship for anyone who wants to join. It’s not big, but it’s real—and good for the heart. These moments continue to be a source of peace and encouragement.

♥️ Encouraged in Viana do Castelo

We had the chance to visit our friends in Viana do Castelo and were so encouraged by what God is doing there. Their church is growing in both size and depth, and we got to hear some amazing stories of healing, provision, and lives being transformed.

It was a refreshing reminder of how powerfully God is moving in this region!

World of Coffee with the Khans

We also joined the Khans at the World of Coffee conference — a big step for our coffee work! We were able to connect with new suppliers and finally meet some of our current partners in person after months of emailing. Beyond the logistics, it was a sweet time away to pray together, reflect, and thank God for all He’s provided so far. We’re leaning in with expectation for what He has next.

Our Prayer Requests

We are so grateful for your love and prayers. Here are a few things we’re praying into—feel free to join us:

For deeper community and the heart of Jesus to be known in Vila do Conde

That Beckham finds new opportunities in game development

For Kai to do well on his upcoming pilot exams

Praise for the provision of housing for both us and the boys

For the Alpha group starting soon at our café—that it would bring light and life

For wisdom and grace as we (Kevin & Angela) balance life, work, and ministry
