Reflections on the goodness of God

Recently, I’ve been meditating on this verse,

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

Living abroad, managing a café, ministry, family, and the world’s worries can sometimes feel overwhelming. But I’ve found that when I really sit in the reality that the living God is active in our lives — gracious, merciful, set apart — I can breathe again. It’s a truth that grounds me and reminds me of His sovereignty and love.

“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory.” — Romans 11:16

☕ Humble Anchor Community Events ☕️

Our next-door neighbor at our old house gifted us a wonderful evening of live music, and nearly 60 people came out!

It was a joy to connect with the community, many who had never been to the café before. We’re excited to host more of these gatherings in the future and continue fostering relationships through music and shared experiences.

Film Festival Partnership

We recently had the privilege of hosting a meet-and-greet for the Vila do Conde Film Festival. This event brought together many locals and visitors, and it was an honored that they chose us to be part of one of the biggest cultural events in town. It’s a fantastic way to build new partnerships and serve our community in this way.

Alpha on the Camino

A new project has taken shape with believers from Spain, supported by a retired couple from Mexico. They dreamed of hosting *Alpha on the Camino*, and thanks to God’s provision, we were invited to host the first stop along the route. It was a beautiful time of fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ, demonstrating love and care for those on life’s journey. Click on the button below to learn more about this ministry:

️ Saturday Worship Evenings

Each Saturday evening, we gather around the big table at the café for a time of worship, prayer, and fellowship. We share a meal, sing, and hear short reflections — it truly feels like a family. Each week, new friends join us, and it’s been such a blessing to see this sense of community grow.

Family Update:

✈️ Kai’s Journey: Completed initial theory exams, heading to Mallorca for practical pilot training next month, working towards his commercial pilot license!

Beckham’s Career: Recently hired as a full-time Game Economy Designer, moving forward in his game design career!

Visitors: We’re really looking forward to having my brother and sister-law and niece come to visit for a few days. It’s always such a joy to have family visit!

♥️ Summer Highlights

This summer has been busier than last, with more events, visitors and community building. We’ve partnered with a local teacher to help kids in need, and we’re excited to do more of these types of partnerships in the future!

Friends from South Africa have gone back home for a time to visit family, They are looking at possibly joining us at Humble Anchor in the ministry there. Pray for them as they continue lean into what the Lord has them.

Our Pastor from Ireland and his wife and kids visited us recently at the café as they were here for a short trip to speak during surf camp this year. It was amazing to see old friends again!
